30 Day Credit Recovery Policy:
IOL is different from the 30 day Credit Recovery Policy. When a student has failed a class, he or she may apply for the extension to complete course content within 30 school days. This request is approved by a site professional team and guidelines will be determined and managed at site. If the student succeeds at recovering the assigned credit within the 30 day period, his or her failing grade may be replaced with a revised passing grade.
Credit recovery is available when a student has failed a class and is beyond the 30 day credit recovery time frame or does not qualify for the 30 day credit recovery. If a Junior or Senior failed a course that is not currently offered at site, they qualify to retake the course through IOL.
Initial Credit refers to a course that the student has not yet taken in high school and is taking for the first time. While Individualized Online Learning is not approved as a choice-alternative to classroom learning, it is made available for Initial Credit for students in the following unique circumstances:
- Seniors with scheduling conflicts that do not allow them to enroll in a regular course
- Pregnant and parenting teens
- Other unique circumstances, as approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Programs
Some students may qualify to take courses in a test-out mode. This mode will exempt students from units or lessons if they demonstrate mastery on a unit pre-test. To request a course in test-out mode, provide an explation on the course request form.
